A Need For ER Education |
As health care providers to the bleeding disorders community, a particular concern of ours is the lack of understanding about bleeding disorders among medical personnel and the impact that this has on both the patient and family while undergoing treatment in the emergency rooming setting. This knowledge deficit not only prevents a bleeding episode from being managed as a true emergency, but also creates a variety of other unfortunate scenarios.
Our ER Awareness Educational Series focuses on providing education to ER medical personnel regarding bleeding disorders and the special needs of this affected population. The program targets outlying emergency room staff, especially community based MDs, nurse practitioners and RNs. |
| The Program |
A one hour presentation made by Dr. Joanna A. Davis is followed by a question and answer period. Lunch is provided before each session. CMEs and CEs are provided.
To date this program has provided education to over 1000 medical emergency room personnel throughout the United States. To register for this free program, contact Patrice Bravo, LCSW, at 305-243-6925.

A Need For ER Education |
The vWD Educational Series: Signs, Symptoms and Treatment of von Willebrand disease, was created in response to patient accounts of medical mismanagement experienced at a variety of emergency rooms throughout the State of Florida. The errors occurred because the front line medical personnel, both physician and nurses in the emergency rooms, lacked the appropriate knowledge to be able to provide the standard of care to patients with bleeding disorders. The goal of our vWD Educational Series has been to familiarize those on the front line of medical care with the signs, symptoms and management of the common bleeding disorders, in particular von Willebrand disease. |
