Infusion 101 Workshop
infusion 101

A primary goal of the HTC is the independence of our patients and families. Learning infusion techniques is fundamental to achieving this goal. Patients, when ready, are also taught how to prepare and administer factor. Our youngest “success story” was able to infuse himself from start to finish by his sixth birthday.

At the University of Miami Hemophilia Treatment Center all parents of children with hemophilia are offered the opportunity to learn infusion techniques as soon as the child requires his first infusion. At least 70 percent of our parents with children under the age of six have learned to prepare a work area and mix factor.

A Nationally Recognized Program

Our nationally recognized program teaches both the basics of infusion and addresses complicated feelings related to self infusion. Workshops are held on a bimonthly basis and are geared to meet developmental needs of each age group in need; preschooler, elementary age, young adolescent, adult, recertification and parent. A small group size and a relaxed setting provide ample opportunity for plenty of hands-on practice. Ten workshops will be held this year, so be sure to call early to reserve your space.
